RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. — One person was taken to the hospital after their car was hit by a light rail train in Rancho Cordova.

The crash was reported around 2:40 p.m. Thursday at Folsom Boulevard and Marketplace Lane. The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said the car was left with major damage and the occupant was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

The California Highway Patrol and Rancho Cordova Police are investigating.  However, according to Sacramento Regional Transit, it appears the driver of the mini van tried to drive on the wrong side of road, bypassing the rail crossing gates in front of the oncoming train.

Regional transit officials didn't think there were any major injuries, but one passenger on the train was taken to a hospital.
