RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. (AP) - After five public hearings, the Rancho Cordova City Council has approved a plan to erect a digital billboard along Highway 50 that will bring $1.4 million to the city.

The Sacramento Bee reports that council members approved a billboard proposal from Sierra Outdoor/Outfront Media over a competing proposal from Clear Channel Outdoor.

The sign can be 60 feet tall and have two faces with 672 square feet of display each. They will have rotating advertisements, including city public service announcements.

The agreement gives companies the right to the location for 25 years with the ability to renew.

Sierra Outdoor/Outfront Media has agreed to remove four traditional billboards in exchange for being allowed to put up the electronic one.
