RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. — Deputies have launched an investigation after two deputies opened fire on a suspect in Rancho Cordova Monday.
The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said they were called to a home along the 2500 block of Aguibi Way after a woman with a butcher knife allegedly tried to break in. The call came in around 10:45 a.m.
Deputies arrived and started searching for the suspect after learning everyone inside the home was safe. Not long after the search started, deputies found the woman inside a car parked on the driveway of a home along the 10000 Malaga Way.
After deputies tried to contact her, two deputies opened fire. It's not clear what led up to the shooting.
Officials said the suspect tried to drive away, but she was found near Folsom Boulevard and Routier Road. After deputies tried to do a vehicle stop, she allegedly led them on a short chase before stopping on Folsom Blvd, just west of Mather Field Road.
"About seven police cars chasing after a little white challenger," said Kyree Williams, a Light Rail security guard.
"Then once they stopped, more police officers came behind them," added Mellifluours Lyuda, another Light Rail security guard. "It was like 30-plus, something like that."
She eventually surrendered to the sheriff's office, which is when deputies found a minor injury to her arm, but it's not clear if she was wounded from a gunshot.
She was identified by the sheriff's office as Kyrieanna Liles and was booked into the county jail on suspicion of attempted murder.
