WALLACE, Calif. — As we get farther into summer and wildfire season, the Cal Fire Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit is reminding people to be mindful of activities that could spark a fire.
A post they shared to Facebook shows a charred riding lawnmower surrounded by torched ground.
The post says the call initially came in as a structure fire, but responders got to the scene and found it was a vegetation fire on Slate Drive in Wallace (Calaveras County).
“It seems to us that riding lawnmowers make a better decorated parade entry this time of year then the tool of choice for tall dry dead grasses in our unit,” wrote the unit.
Cal Fire suggests mowing your lawn before 10 a.m. and never if it’s windy or overly dry as metal blades hitting rocks can lead to sparks and a fire.
