WATERFORD, Calif. — Three men were arrested after an armed robbery and car chase in Waterford Monday afternoon, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office.
Jonathan Witt, 36; Benjamin Witt, 33; and Nathan Green, 23, were arrested and booked into Stanislaus County Jail and charged with conspiracy to commit a crime.
Witt and Green were also charged with vehicle theft, carjacking, assault with a deadly weapon, felony evading, and prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
Deputies responded to a reported armed robbery around 1 p.m. on the 800 block of Mirandy Lane. The victim of the robbery had various personal belongings stolen including keys to the car the three suspects allegedly used to get away.
Deputies attempted a traffic stop later when they saw the stolen car near Yosemite Boulevard and Claus Road. They drove off and led deputies on a chase through Modesto and Empire.
The suspects threw two handguns out of the car near Celeste Drive during the pursuit. Deputies recovered both.
Deputies say Jonathan tried running away near Edgebrook Drive and Colfax Avenue while Benjamin and Nathan continued in the stolen car.
Deputies spike stopped the car, but it hit a patrol deputy’s car on B Street in Empire. The chase lasted 27 minutes, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy not involved in the chase and trying to assist crashed into an uninvolved vehicle at the intersection of Claus Road and Yosemite B. The adult and minor in the uninvolved vehicle along with the deputy were not injured.
