Suspect arrested in smash-and-grab robberies at south Sacramento jewelry store

In total, the seven suspects took off with about $250,000 in jewelry after the first robbery.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — One of the suspects involved in two smash-and-grab robberies at a south Sacramento jewelry store is behind bars.

The first robbery dates back to Dec. 24, 2023. Deputies said seven suspects used hammers and other blunt objects during the crime while customers and employees were inside the store. The suspects swarmed the store, breaking the supply cases while the customers and employees hid in a back room.

In total, the suspects took off with about $250,000 in jewelry.

The same store was hit again Feb. 13, 2024. This time, two suspects went inside and smashed the display cases while customers and employees again hid in the back room.

The suspects took off $30,000 with worth of jewelry.

Deputies said both robberies were done by the same group of suspects.

One of the suspects was eventually identified as 19-year-old Julian Lomeli, of Stockton. He was taken into custody at a San Joaquin County home, east of Stockton.

Deputies also found evidence related to the cases after searching two homes.

Lomeli was taken to the Sacramento Main Jail.
