If you 'feel uptight on a Saturday night,' roll out to 'Sacramento Rock City.’
Rock & Brews restaurant chain is coming to Cal Expo. The family eatery is best known for two of its founders, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons of the iconic rock band, KISS.
Simmons and Stanley are actually expected to host the grand opening activities, which will benefit veterans and active military.
The newest addition to events convention is the latest 'revival effort' over the past several years, according to a Cal Expo statement. Cal Expo officials approved a 20 year lease for Rock & Brews this week.
"It will be the only year-round, permanent restaurant [at Cal Expo] so it's definitely very unique," said Sabrina Rodriguez, spokesperson for Cal Expo.
So far, Rodriguez said there are no plans to bring any other restaurants to the location. The Rock & Brews group approached Cal Expo earlier this year, about the possibility of bringing their business to the vacant location on the corner of Exposition Boulevard/Arden Way/Ethan Way. The last time the space was occupied was 12 years ago by Paradise Island family fun center.
"We put an out a request for people to submit proposals," Rodriguez said. "That's when the Rock & Brews group came in."
Rock & Brews has locations in the U.S. and Mexico, but this will be the first location in Northern California. The brand specializes in offering American comfort food, like burgers and wings, as well as craft beers, according to their website.
The restaurant will use locally-sourced, fresh ingredients, according to the Cal Expo statement.
"Rock & Brews will honor Cal Expo's farm-to-fork outreach programs, and highlight the importance of California's agriculture industry by maintaining a substantial vegetable and herb garden and only buying fresh produce from local farmers." said Rock & Brews' Joe Johal in the statement.
The restaurant is aiming to be a fun place to bring kids and family. It will feature miniature golf course, batting cages, family entertainment center, go-carts and a large garden seating area.
Cal Expo has been working to revitalize their events and attract visitors. Recent efforts include a partnership to create Bonney Field- the soccer field for the Sacramento Republic FC- and bringing in big events such as Country in the Park and Global Winter Wonderland.
Rock & Brew is just the latest addition.
"Other than it being a great place to dine, a great new option, something new- there's also other construction happening across the street at Howe 'Bout Arden," Rodriguez said. "It's a great time for the Arden area and revitalization."
Rock & Brews is hoping to have a grand opening in June 2017, according to the Cal Expo statement.
That's just before the start of Cal Expo's 50th year hosting the California State Fair.
