ROSEVILLE, Calif. — Costco's second location in Roseville is another step closer to starting construction on its project in the Baseline Marketplace.
The new 160,529-square-foot store will be on the northwest corner of Fiddyment and Baseline roads.
Roseville city councilman Scott Alvord posted on social media that funds have been transferred in escrow and Costco now owns the land in its section of the project.
"Remember, this is not a city project, so the city doesn't control its timeline, but Costco has a great reputation of building quickly. Now that they own it, every day lost in delay is lost dollars. It should start moving quickly once they get started," Alvord wrote.
Alvord said the contract has already been awarded to the company which will build the infrastructure and roadways. He said the assumption is that infrastructure construction would happen through the winter so Costco could start going vertical in the spring, but more specific details will be released later.
"I'm really excited it's now real since we've been talking about it for years and we've done everything we can to make it a reality," Alvord told ABC10.
The Roseville City Council approved a $6 million incentive in 2023, which would be paid to Costco once the store opens to offset infrastructure costs. The cost of the project, including about $16.5 million in public infrastructure, had delayed development in the nine years since the project was initially approved, according to city council documents.
Costco would be the anchor store for the Baseline Marketplace, located at Baseline Road and Fiddyment Road. It's an 81-acre retail development in the Sierra Vista Specific Plan. Once completed, the project will be about 750,000 square feet of building area, including three commercial buildings, four fast food restaurants with drive-thru facilities, three gas stations and 23 outlying restaurants and retail stores.
The first phase of the project, which includes the Costco store, gas station, car wash and three other parcels, would bring the city about $3 million a year in tax revenue, according to the city. Other tenants in the Baseline Marketplace haven't been announced yet, according to Alvord.
ABC10 reached out to Costco for more information, however, the company doesn't comment on locations which will be opening more than three months from today.
The next two Costcos in California are in Napa and Pleasanton and are set to open in October 2024, according to Costco.
