ROSEVILLE, Calif. — A project proposal in Roseville is on pause while the applicant does more community outreach.
The city of Roseville is not "actively" processing the application for a proposed Roseville Industrial Park. The city said Panattoni Development Corporation, the applicant, will be doing more public outreach.
After the outreach is finished, the city will notify people of the next steps. If there are significant changes to the project description, there may need to be additional environmental analysis and possibly a need to recirculate the Draft Environmental Impact Report.
"We plan to hold a series of “living room” meetings with residents in the surrounding neighborhoods. Our goal with these meetings is for small groups to weigh in on appropriate uses for the site, given the city’s economic development planning goals for this area of West Roseville. Our intent is to leave each meeting with a design that outlines a proposed vision of the site from the group," Panattoni Development Corporation said in a statement.
The meetings are set to start in mid-May and run at least through the summer. Once the “living room” meetings are finished, Panattoni Development will set up a larger community meeting to present the results and go over the next steps.
Abbie Wertheim, a Development Manager at Panattoni Development Company, said the main purpose of the meetings is to give everyone who wants to participate a chance to do so. Wertheim said there are three meetings set up for June and she's working with other people who want to host to schedule a date and also pair up participants with hosts. She said it's an ongoing process to find out what the community wants from the site.
"I'm glad the residents of Roseville made an impact on the decision-making process and that things have slowed down, and I'm grateful to the city for giving us an update but I also feel like there [is] still more we need to do. This is not the end and I'm hoping residents won't disengage or feel like this whole thing is over because of this pause in the process," Nichole Mace, a Roseville resident said in an email to ABC10.
The Roseville Industrial Park is proposed along Phillip Road in West Roseville. The project could include up to 15 buildings, totaling 2,430,000 square feet. While nothing is set in stone, some of the businesses could include research and development, light manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, a potential electrical substation or office space.
This proposal is in the early stages and the city council has not taken any action on the proposal.
"The exact size and business uses have not been determined at this time. While the environmental study examines potential square footage, that number could change. If the project moves forward, it would be gradually built in phases. These phases could take more than a decade," Helen Dyda, a spokesperson for the city of Roseville, previously told ABC10.
