GRANITE BAY, Calif. — Deputies are conducting a homicide investigation after two people were found dead and a suspect was detained Monday in Granite Bay.
Just after 8 a.m., the Placer County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home along Oak Leaf Way and believed a man in his mid-30s was inside, deputies said. Law enforcement was unable to establish contact with the man, and the sheriff’s office special enforcement team (SET) and crisis negotiators were called to the scene.
Around 11:45 a.m., the man allegedly surrendered and was detained. Deputies said they entered the home and found a man and woman dead.
The sheriff’s office said it’s investigating their deaths as a homicide, and the man detained is law enforcement’s sole suspect. The Placer County Sheriff's Office identified the suspect as 36-year-old Josef Meinzer Tuesday morning. The identities of the two people who were killed haven't been released. The relationship between the three people is unclear.
Oak Leaf Way from Macduff Drive to just south of Lou Place was closed during the incident but has since reopened.
