Girl's basketball tournament held in Roseville

The Trail Summer Finale Showcase Tournament brings some of the best girls basketball players to the West Coast.

ROSEVILLE, Calif. — Some girls who could be the future of women’s basketball are playing in a three-day long tournament in Roseville this weekend.

The Trail Summer Finale Showcase Tournament is bringing some of the best girls basketball players on the West Coast — totaling more than 1,000 middle and high school athletes.

The event runs through Sunday at the Roebbelen Center, allowing the athletes to showcase their skills to NCAA basketball coaches and recruiters.

“12 courts under one roof. It's just a great environment with all of the teams,” said organizer Pat Woodward.

He says roughly 85 teams are in Roseville, coming from as far away as Hawaii and Montana.

“Long spring summer for all of us, whether you're a player, coach, parents, or tournament director as myself, you know, it's been a grind, but we love it,” said Woodward.

He says with fresh faces in the WNBA — like rookies Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese making their mark in the league — there’s a renewed sense of excitement around girls hoops.

“You can see the enthusiasm and excitement starting to gain some momentum again,” said Woodward.

Placer Valley Tourism says the tournament will bring roughly 2,000 family members and fans to the area and generate at least $1 million in revenue through hotels, restaurants and stores throughout the county.
