Man arrested in relation to mail keys robbery in Roseville

Police said the stolen keys were returned to the United States Postal Service.

ROSEVILLE, Calif. — A man was arrested in connection to the robbery of a mail carrier earlier this week in Roseville.

The Roseville Police Department said 32-year-old Xavier Roberts was arrested Friday afternoon and was booked into Placer County Jail.

Roberts is suspected of stealing keys from a United States Postal Service employee in a Roseville neighborhood Tuesday. The stolen keys were recovered and returned to the USPS, police said.

The mail keys granted access to mailboxes in the 95747 zip code.

Police said the robbery happened around 2:15 p.m. Tuesday in the area of the 1700 block of Mockingbird Street.

According to the police, a mail carrier was approached while on the job delivering mail and an armed suspect demanded their postal keys. USPS Postal Inspector Matthew Norfleet said the worker was not injured.

"This is an unacceptable and terrifying experience for anybody who's trying to do their job," he said.
