ROSEVILLE, Calif. — A professional women's soccer team in Roseville announced Wednesday it officially signed its first player.
Defender Molly Branigan will play for Iron Rose FC. She previously played for Placer United Soccer Club in Rocklin, according to a Facebook post by the team.
"Roseville has been longing for a women's soccer team, given the amount of local talent there is. Iron Rose FC is such an amazing opportunity to showcase our local community as a place to support and get excited about women's sports. I can't wait to be a part of this inaugural season and couldn't be more excited to compete in front of my hometown," Branigan said.
Branigan graduated from UC Davis where she played on the soccer team as a midfielder, according to her UC Davis biography. She also attended St. Francis High School.
Iron Rose will play its home opener May 18 against FC Davis at its home stadium at West Park High School.
Iron Rose FC is part of the Pac North Conference. The team will face off against opponents in the conference including BattleBorn FC, California Storm, Diablo Valley Wolves, FC Davis, Fresno Freeze, Lamorinda United, Napa Valley 1839 FC, San Francisco Elite Soccer Club, San Francisco Nighthawks, and San Ramon FC.
