FOLSOM, Calif. — There are changes in store for the Gold Line within the next few months. It's part of Sacramento Regional Transit's Light Rail Modernization project.
This month, SacRT kicked off its Folsom 15-Minute Light Service Project to provide quicker light rail service for stations that have 30-minute service now.
Jessica Gonzalez, a spokesperson for SacRT, says the 15-minute service after the Sunrise station becomes 30-minute service to the Historic Folsom station.
The construction to create a passing track will shut down service between Historic Folsom and Iron Point stations until July 2024. In the meantime, bus bridges will connect passengers between stations.
"If you've ever ridden on the Gold Line out to Historic Folsom, once you pass a certain point it becomes a single track, which means we can only offer 30-minute service to those stations. We know people in those stations. They come in for Kings games, they come in to work, they come in to do things in the downtown area. To be able to provide that 15-minute service is really going to be a game changer for people in that region," said Gonzalez.
Gonzalez says the new trains should be out by summer 2024, but platform modifications are happening before that along the Gold Line.
She says they're expanding to full station conversions and will close one side of the platform at a time during the full week. The Sunrise station is impacted this month.
