SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The city of Sacramento announced Monday more than $200,000 in funding for small businesses on Northgate Boulevard.
According to the city, the $200,000 comes from $5 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds previously invested in Northgate Boulevard. The money should be used for storefront improvements to attract more people to the business corridor.
The 2.5-mile stretch of road in South Natomas is known for its diverse food options from Mexican to Salvadoran and Cajun cuisine. Businesses can receive anywhere from $5,000 to $15,000.
“I am thrilled to be making such an important and exciting investment in the Northgate Corridor, one of the best-kept secrets in Sacramento,” said Mayor Pro Tem Karina Talamantes, who represents the area. “Increasing beautification and safety for our Northgate Boulevard businesses will catalyze other economic development goals for our city. It will support the retention and growth of existing businesses, deter vacancies, and spur new investment. Our goal is to attract more visitors to come shop and dine on in our vibrant hub that reflects the heart and soul of South Natomas.”
Applications are due by 4 p.m. Friday, August 16. Franchises and nonprofits aren’t eligible for the funding.
