Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera celebrating 10-year anniversary season

ABC10 spoke to one of the show’s stars about the group’s impact in the Sacramento community.

SACRAMENTO, California —

The Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera is taking the stage Saturday for opening night.

Saturday night officially kicks the Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera’s 10-year anniversary season. This season begins with Mozart’s “Marriage of Figaro” on Saturday at the SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center.

One of the show’s stars spoke with ABC10 about the group’s impact in the Sacramento community.

“Sacramento is vibrant and beautiful,” Rena Harms said. “We are for Sacramento. Each of us try and strive to make that true everyday.

“Music is our gift to ourselves in humanity. It’s something that brings us together and brings joy. You don’t have to be a musician to love it.”

Harms is also the director of development and special projects with the Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera and has been performing since she was four years old.

In the past decade, Harms said the Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera has reached nearly 500,000 Sacramentans including 7,000 students.

Thanks to donations and community support, the Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera has made a full return to pre-pandemic levels.

The Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera also offer educational programs in schools and the organization volunteers at various community events including 175 pop-up concerts.

The goal of the community events is to be a collaborative leader in the cultural growth of the Sacramento region.
