Sacramento warming centers extend opening through mid-January

Some warming center locations in Sacramento County have extended their opening dates until Jan. 11.

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — Some Sacramento County warming centers will be open through Jan. 12 as another storm is forecasted to roll through Northern California.

Due to the cold temperatures and incoming potential for rain, the below locations will be open and people are able to get free SacRT rides to the shelters when showing the flyer to the bus operator. See the entire flyer HERE.

  • The Warren E Thornton Youth Center Gym, located at 4000 Branch Center Road in Sacramento, will be open until Jan. 11 at 10 a.m. The space can hold 50 people. The city says pets are allowed but have to be crated while indoors and on a leash while outdoors. Crates will be provided to anyone who does not have one.
  • The Outreach and Engagement Center, located at 3615 Auburn Blvd. in Sacramento, will be open until Jan. 12 at 10 a.m. The location has space for 50 people, will accept pets and has storage for personal belongings if needed.
