CARMICHAEL, Calif. — A Carmichael woman faces animal cruelty charges after she allegedly cut a dog’s throat and left it to die in a trash can.
According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, it happened along the 4000 block of Manzanita Avenue in Carmichael.
Deputies say a 911 caller reported a dog in a trash can with something tied around its neck.
Witnesses told deputies the dog’s owner lived in the complex, and she was later identified as 41-year-old Danielle Killian, who was then detained at her apartment.
Killian reportedly told investigators she thought her life would be easier if she only had to care for one dog, so she cut her second dog’s throat Monday. She then allegedly put it in a shopping bag and into the garbage bin the following day.
The dog wasn’t found until around 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Killian was arrested and taken to the Sacramento County Main Jail where she was released on her own recognizance.
The sheriff’s office says it could not find the cat she owns and is concerned other animals she cared for in the past may have been abused.
Anyone with information can call the sheriff’s office at 916-874-5115.
