SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A police chase after an alleged burglary at a marijuana business ended in a crash early Monday morning in Rosemont, police said. One suspect was reportedly detained and two are still at large after the incident, which sent a driver not involved with the crime to the hospital with major injuries, according to law enforcement.
Around 4:45 a.m., police officers were engaged in a pursuit of a BMW traveling northbound on South Watt Avenue, approaching Manlove Road, according to the California Highway Patrol's East Sacramento office. The BMW was occupied by a driver and two passengers; they were all men, police said.
The three suspects were allegedly fleeing the burglary of a marijuana business along the 5700 block of Alder Avenue, off Fruitridge Road, according to the Sacramento Police Department. Marijuana was stolen from the business, but is it unclear as of 6 a.m. Monday how much was taken, police said.
The BMW reportedly failed to stop at a red light at the South Watt Avenue and Manlove Road intersection — roughly two miles north of the business — and crashed into an Infiniti, CHP said. The force of the impact reportedly propelled the Infiniti into a Lexus SUV, which was stationary in the southbound lanes of South Watt Avenue, just north of Manlove Road, according to law enforcement.
After the crash, the driver and passengers of the BMW fled on foot, CHP said. Sacramento police officers reportedly apprehended one of the passengers, but the driver and the other passenger got away, authorities said.
The Infiniti driver suffered major injuries and was transported to the hospital, according to CHP. The two people in the Lexus were reportedly unharmed.
