SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A man was killed, and two other adults were injured early Sunday morning after a shooting in North Sacramento.
Just after 3 a.m., officers responded to the report of a shooting along the 1500 block of Orlando Way, near El Camino Avenue and just west of the Interstate 80 Business Loop, according to Sacramento Police Department spokeswoman Officer Allison Smith.
Upon arrival, police said they found a man with a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Smith said.
Police reportedly located another adult victim nearby with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, and they were taken to the hospital. A third adult victim took herself to the hospital, Smith said.
Police said homicide detectives have taken over the investigation, and the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the victim who was killed after his family has been notified.
The early morning violence left neighbors startled.
"We heard around 20 gunshots," said Yeli Najera who lives steps away from the shooting scene. "I was scared because there are kids here, a lot of kids around. I was scared because I thought a bullet could land in the house. Very quickly, I went to check on the kids."
Najera's kids were fine, but she is hoping the sudden tragedy will bring more police attention to her area.
"It's scary to be here because the area is bad," Najera said. "We can't be outside anymore."
