1 killed in 2-vehicle crash. Sacramento police say one driver appeared intoxicated

A sedan and SUV collided in South Sacramento. The single occupant of the sedan suffered critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A person is dead and another is detained at the hospital after a two-vehicle crash early Monday morning in South Sacramento.

Just after 12:45 a.m., a sedan and SUV collided along Franklin Boulevard near Sunmeadow Drive, according to the Sacramento Police Department. The single occupant of the sedan suffered critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The driver of the SUV suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital, according to law enforcement.

Police said the driver of the SUV displayed signs of intoxication and was detained at the hospital as of 7 a.m. Monday. Officers said anyone with information on the incident is encouraged to contact the department at 916-808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers.

Roads were closed after the crash; they were reopened by around 7:45 a.m. Monday.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the crash victim killed after their family has been notified, authorities said.
