SACRAMENTO, Calif — UPDATE 11 a.m.
As of 11 a.m. Monday, only 157 customers were still in the dark. That numbered had decreased from nearly 18,000 earlier in the day. A majority of the outages were reported in the Carmichael area.
UPDATE 8:30 a.m.
Just over 1,700 SMUD customers woke up without power Monday. There are currently 32 active outages, mostly in the south Sacramento area.
UPDATE 1:30 a.m.
Fifty outages across the Sacramento area has a little more than 800 SMUD customers without power early Monday morning.
At their worst, SMUD said they had nearly 18,000 customers without power. The outages were due to the historic high wind event that toppled tree limbs onto power lines around the city.
Most of the current outages are in the Arden area.
UPDATE 9:30 p.m.
A little more than 1,600 SMUD customers are still without power as crews continue to work to restore electricity to homes impacted by Sunday's high winds.
The vast majority of the power outages in the Sacramento area were due to tree limbs being blown onto power lines.
Crews will continue to work through the night to restore power to all customers, officials said.
UPDATE 7:30 p.m.
SMUD has whittled the total number of power outages in the Sacramento area down to just less than 3,500 customers.
The outages were a result of extremely high winds toppling tree limbs onto lines around the city.
At its worst, SMUD reported nearly 18,000 without power.
UPDATE: 5:30 p.m.
Nearly 8,000 SMUD customers remain without power as of 5:30 p.m. Sunday. The outages are concentrated in Arden, Citrus Heights, and Executive Airport.
SMUD reports that most of the outages were wind-related, but the utility reports three car-pole accidents happened Sunday morning.
At least one death in Santa Cruz is linked to a fallen tree, reports the Associated Press.

Nearly 11,000 SMUD customers across Sacramento are without power Sunday as strong winds continue to blow through Northern California.
As of 4:20 p.m. Sunday, more than 10,750 customers are affected by 180 outages, including thousands in East Sacramento, Folsom, Florin and the Executive Airport areas.
UPDATE: 12:45 p.m.
More than half of the SMUD outages across Sacramento have been restored Sunday afternoon as high winds in the city continue knock down trees and a damage equipment.
As of 12:45 p.m., more than 9,500 customers are still without power, according to SMUD's power outage map. Around 11:40 a.m., more than 21,000 customers were without electricity before SMUD restored power.

More than 16,000 customers north of Sacramento are without power Sunday morning as high winds whip through the city knocking down trees and damaging utility equipment.
Most of the 49 outages appear to be in the North Natomas area, with other outages scattered across the city, according to SMUD's outage map. Nearly 12,300 customers in North Natomas lost their power around 11:06 a.m. Thursday, and aren't expected to have it restored until 1:10 p.m., according to SMUD.
Unlike the massive planned PG&E blackouts across the state, these SMUD outages are were a result of the high winds in the area.
