2 dead after accident in Sacramento County

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire said the crash happened in the area of Jackson Highway and Excelsior Road in Sacramento County.

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — Two people are dead after an accident in Sacramento County Thursday evening.

A spokesperson for the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said it happened in the area of Jackson Highway and Excelsior Road, near the Mather area.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Ford F-250 veered into the westbound lane and hit a Chrysler Town and Country head-on. It's not clear why the pickup truck veered into the opposing lanes. 

Police said the two people in the Chrysler died while the driver of the Ford had minor injuries.

Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected as a factor in the crash.
