62-year-old man dies after crash ejects him from moped in Sacramento

CHP say the crash happened on 66th Avenue when the man pulled out in front of an oncoming car.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — One man is dead after a Tuesday evening crash in Sacramento.

The man was 62 years old from Sacramento. CHP-South Sacramento said he was hit by a 2005 Acura MDX and died at the hospital from his injuries.

CHP said the crash happened Tuesday evening around 7:20 p.m. on 66th Avenue. Authorities said the man was riding a 2008 Lancer Moped while pulling out on to 66th Avenue from a private driveway.

Police said the man pulled out in front of an eastbound Acura that was going 35 mph and the Acura driver wasn't able to avoid crashing into him.

The 62-year-old was ejected from the moped and landed in the westbound lanes of 66th Avenue. Despite being taken to a hospital, the man died.

The Acura driver, identified as a 19-year-old man from Sacramento, stayed at the crash site and cooperated with police before being released.

Police say drugs and alcohol don't appear to be a factor in the crash. The victim's identity will be released once next of kin is notified.
