SACRAMENTO, Calif. — At least two families were displaced after flames tore through two homes in the Arden Arcade area of Sacramento Saturday, fire officials said.

Crews with the Sacramento Metro Fire District were called out to the homes in the 2100 block of Byron Road before 10 a.m. Saturday.

All of the people who were inside the homes at the time were safely evacuated and a second alarm response was dispatched to the scene.

Firefighters say that the construction of the homes' roofs posed an extra challenge.

"Ember cast and wind threatened adjacent homes," said fire officials in a post on X. "The roof construction on both homes created challenges finding hidden fire due to a pitched roof being added over a flat roof."

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.
