SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The California Highway Patrol says a bicyclist is dead after being hit by a vehicle Thursday evening.

CHP says the accident happened near Beach and Elm avenues in Orangevale.

Police said the man was on an electric bike heading southbound on Beach Avenue toward Elm Avenue while a Chevrolet pickup was going eastbound on Elm toward the same intersection. They collided in the intersection.

The bicyclist died from his injuries, and the driver of the pickup wasn't hurt.

Police don't suspect alcohol and/or drugs play a factor in the collision.
