Body found in the American River by fisherman, fire officials say

The body was that of a man, and it was found near 7926 La Riviera Drive. He was in his 40s-50s.

SACRAMENTO, Calif — A man's body was found eight feet underwater by a fisherman in the American River Friday, according to Sacramento Fire Department.

The fisherman was traveling downriver when he noticed a dead body submerged in the river. He then alerted authorities.

According to Captain Justin Sylvia, the public information officer for Sacramento Fire Department, the body was found at around 3:15 pm and was pulled out of the river about a half hour later.

"We've seen many people out here, just as we've been out here for the past two hours without life jackets trying to navigate across this American River, which is still very dangerous,” Sylvia said.

The cause of the death is unknown.
