SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Law enforcement agencies are searching for an arson suspect Thursday after Cal Fire investigated a fire set earlier this month at Sacramento State.
Firefighters with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived at the university in response to the fire just before 7 p.m. Dec. 10, according to a Cal Fire news release. Law enforcement said an ensuing investigation conducted by Cal Fire’s arson and bomb unit, the Sacramento Police Department and the Sacramento State Police Department found the fire was arson on state property and identified a potential suspect as 33-year-old Cody Alexander Haney.
The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office issued an arrest warrant for Haney, and if convicted, he could face up to six years in state prison, Cal Fire said. The arrest warrant’s bail was set at $50,000, according to Cal Fire.
Haney was identified in the news release as a man standing around 5 feet 6 inches tall. He was last seen wearing a beige hoodie, blue vest, camouflage pants, brown boots and a blue and pink colored Fila backpack, law enforcement said.
Cal Fire said Haney is possibly armed with knives and people are advised to notify law enforcement without attempting to contact the suspect should someone encounter him.
