SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Three years ago, Twanna Lucas returned home to discover her mother and two adult sons had been stabbed to death.
Lucas found the bodies of 68-year-old Christine Lucas, a pastor with Gloryland Revival Center International Ministries; 23-year-old Marquise Brown and 20-year-old James Ferrell at her Sacramento apartment on the 700 block of Broadway.
Lucas’ mother and sons were killed Oct. 15, 2016. Exactly three years later - Tuesday evening - Lucas and other Sacramento-area family members who have lost loved ones to deadly violence gathered in South Sacramento for a candlelight memorial.
Those attending Tuesday's memorial included Dr. Nicole Clavo, who lost her teenage son JJ Clavo to gun violence in 2015. Clavo has since become an advocate for reducing gun violence.
Police identified Jerod Watson as the suspect in the 2016 triple homicide of Lucas' family, a man they described as a family friend and in a relationship with Lucas. He fled California and was arrested in Biloxi, Miss. more than four months after the homicides.
Watson, now 55, is in the Sacramento County Jail awaiting trial. His next court date is set for Jan. 17.
