SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Update:

The Sacramento County Coroner's Office has identified the person killed in a hit and run near the El Camino Avenue overpass of Business 80 on Thursday.

Officials said 33-year-old Matthew Cody Davis was the person who died.

Original story:

A deadly hit-and-run near the El Camino Avenue overpass of Business 80 impacted traffic for "multiple hours" Thursday.

According to a press release from the Sacramento Police Department, officers were called to the area of the El Camino Avenue overpass around 2:40 a.m. for a call of an unoccupied car that looked like it had been in an accident in the road.

When officers arrived, they found a second car, also looking like it was involved in an accident, "had exited the roadway of El Camino Avenue, coming to rest on an embankment near Business 80."

CHP officers found the driver of the car in the embankment suffering from major injuries. Despite "life-saving efforts," the driver eventually died at the scene of the accident.

The identity of the driver killed has not yet been released.

The driver of the unoccupied car had left the area before law enforcement arrived.

The westbound 80 off-ramp at El Camino Avenue was closed for a period of time due to the crash.

Sacramento police ask if anyone has information regarding this incident, to call them at (916) 808-5471.
