SACRAMENTO - As friends and family prepare to lay to rest Placer County Sheriff's Det. Michael Davis and Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputy Danny Oliver, the public is getting a chance to pay final tribute to the sheriff's deputies killed in the line of duty.

A public visitation for Oliver at the Sierra Hills Memorial Park Saturday offered the community to a chance to celebrate his life and service.

Since the deaths of the two deputies in the line of duty just over a week ago, an outpouring of public support has prompted even perfect strangers to seek out ways to show their respect for the officers sworn to serve and protect the public.

"When I heard about it, it really breaks my heart," Teresita Carson said on her way into the East Lawn Mortuary.

Carson didn't know Oliver personally, but she believes it's important for everyone to pay tribute in their own way.

Members of an honor guard stood watch over Oliver's coffin. Displays showed photos from friends and relatives, highlighting a Oliver's life full of love. Family friend Douglas Christison stopped by to show his support, and he hopes others will do the same.

"I hope it helps the family that a lot of people come out and show their support," Christison said.

The public visitation for Oliver will continue Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The public also has an opportunity to pay respects to Placer Detective Michael Davis Jr. during a public viewing at the Chapel of the Valley on Vernon Street in Roseville, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. The chapel will be 24 hours open to firefighters or peace officers.
