'We've had a good run' | Dad's Kitchen says goodbye to Land Park

The restaurant on Freeport Boulevard in Land Park closed Sunday.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A beloved Sacramento restaurant closed its doors for good on Sunday. Dad's Kitchen served its final dishes after nearly 15 years of serving the community in Land Park.

It was well-known by locals and even got national attention after it appeared on the Food Network show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, hosted by Guy Fieri.

The restaurant on Freeport Boulevard serves American-style comfort food and is known for its breakfast plates, burgers and sandwiches.

"We've had a good run, but time to close it out," said manager Alana Ladouceur.

Longtime customers returned for one last bite Sunday and employees made sure it went out with a bang.

The restaurant's social media said the last two weeks served as a celebration of longtime staff and customers.

"I've been here for eight years, so this place is kind of like home to me," Ladouceur said.

It's been hard for the restaurant industry over the past few years and Ladouceur says Dad's Kitchen felt it too.

"Ever since COVID, small business has been a little weird, been seeing a little less traffic," she said.

While closing this chapter in Land Park, the story isn't over. The Fair Oaks location in the Sunset Oaks Plaza will keep its doors open. They operate Wednesday through Sunday.

Ladouceur said she and some of the employees from the Land Park location will be going there.
