SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Deputies with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office have arrested a man accused of killing his own roommate in house fire that left two other people injured early Sunday morning in unincorporated Sacramento.
A man was found dead and three people were rescued from the home on Roseburg Court after it erupted in flames early Sunday morning.
At 1:40 a.m. Sunday, crews with the Sacramento Metro Fire Department were called to the home, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post.
Firefighters said that on scene, they noticed heavy fire coming from the front of the house and were told four victims were inside. Two of the victims were able to exit the home but, fire crews had to rescue a third.
"They arrived and had heavy fire from the front of a one-story house. That house had three bedrooms and a garage that was converted into a living space. A total of four persons occupied that home," Sacramento Metro Fire Department Captain Parker Wilbourn said. "There were bars on some of the windows and that did create a possible issue for our crews. Fortunately, those bars were removed and it did not reduce any of our response."
The fourth victim, identified only as an adult man, was found dead inside of the home. Two victims were taken to a local hospital.
Deputies arrested 61-year-old Tyrone Gregory on suspicion of voluntary manslaughter in connection to the fire. Officials say and the victims were roommates.
Investigators do not believe that any other suspects are outstanding.
Sacramento County Sheriff's Office homicide and crime scene detectives also responded to the scene to handle the investigation. They are classifying the incident as a suspicious death.
Firefighters say smoke detectors were working in the home.
(Editor's note: This story has been updated to reflect the house was located in a part of unincorporated Sacramento, not in Rancho Cordova.)
