Sacramento County Sheriff's Office dedicates community room to Deputy Danny Oliver

The dedication comes 10 years after he was shot and killed while on the job.

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — It's been a decade since Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputy Danny Oliver was killed while in the line of duty. For the 10th anniversary of his death, the sheriff's office dedicated a community room in his name.

Deputy Oliver lost his life in October 2014 when he was shot and killed while attempting to pull over Luis Bracamontes, leading to an hours long rampage in Sacramento and Placer counties. Michael Davis, a Placer County Sheriff's detective, was also killed. Now, 10 years later, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office dedicated a community room in honor of Oliver.

"Many of our officers are new and don't know who he is, so we're not only carrying on his legacy for those that were here and experienced it, but we also teaching it to a new generation," said Nathan Seger, president of the Sacramento County Deputy Sheriff's Association.

Oliver's daughter said it's amazing to see the continuing support of her father and cherishes the positive memories her dad had on the job.

"It's something I love saying. I was like, yeah, my dad's a cop and I was very proud of it and he loved his job. He loved helping people and he likes getting the worst criminals off the road," said Melissa Storz.

Bracamontes was sentenced to death, but in May, all death row inmates were transferred to other prisons across the state following the governor's moratorium on the death penalty in 2019. Proposition 66 also allows the transfer of inmates to any state prison.

Bracamontes is currently serving his sentence at the California Medical Facility in Vacaville.
