SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Two men were killed after gunfire erupted as people were leaving a Sacramento County night club and bar early Sunday morning, officials with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said. The shooting also happened not long after a Hmong New Year celebration.
Officials said the double shooting started as a fight between a group of people leaving Sacto By Night Lounge in the 7100 block of Governor's Circle as it was closing around 1:45 a.m. Sunday.
Both men died at the scene, deputies said. According to investigators, witnesses described a white car leaving the area.
Officers with the California Highway Patrol later found and stopped the car, detaining four people. It's unclear whether the four detainees are related to the homicide.
Just hours before the shooting, the club's social media pages advertised a celebration for Hmong New Year, something that many in the community were doing all weekend.
"Unfortunately, we have still have a few problems going on," said Tou Vue.
Vue is a board advisor for the non-profit organization, Sacramento Hmong New Year. On a weekend that attracts tens of thousands of people to Cal Expo to celebrate the holiday, Vue said this shooting is a reminder that his own community isn't immune to the gun violence.
"It just breaks my heart that we still have a few of those incidents going on," said Vue.
Even though the identities of the victims haven't been released yet, Vue said his organization is doing everything it can to help the families impacted.
"We're reaching out to the family and trying to see if they need any help, and then also trying to educate the community to avoid those incidents," said Vue.
Detectives with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office are continuing to investigate the deadly shooting. Anyone with additional information is urged to call the sheriff's office.
