SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Downtown Sacramento businesses are seeing a new energy in the streets as the NBA Playoffs games come to town. The Sacramento Kings defeated the Golden State Warriors in Game 1 at Golden 1 Center. The two teams are set to face off again in Game 2 at the Kings’ home court on Monday.
The co-owner of Identity Boutique, Shane Twilla, said they are restocking their items to prepare for more folks coming in on Monday for the game.
The clothing store was busy Saturday night as tens of thousands of fans flocked to the city for Game 1 Saturday night. Twilla said the Kings’ success is helping bring in business.
"Since they've been in the playoffs, it's fantastic," he said. "With everybody coming in for the game and it selling out, we had tons of people walking around. We had a booth outside selling the Kings-themed shirts from a bunch of local vendors. Even during the game, there were thousands of people in and around the plaza so it was just a really cool atmosphere to see."
Fans also flocked to K Street on Saturday to check out the Kings Playoff Playground and nearby businesses, like Solomon’s Delicatessen.
"It was busy! It was a lot of fun and there was the whole block party happening so that was really exciting," said Nicole Lyons, who works at Solomon's Delicatessen.
"We're on 7th and K, which is just a block away from the Golden 1 Center, so we get a lot of Kings fans coming in before and after the game,” she said.
Fans also filled local bars to watch the game and cheer on the team.
The Kings will play in Game 2 at Golden 1 Center on Monday at 7:00 p.m.
