'It's a good time for everybody': East Sacramento residents prepare for Halloween night

Some residents have already put out their decorations, while others usually put them up the night before but the prep work has already begun for some

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The change in weather is just in time for Halloween and preparations for the holiday are well underway across the Sacramento region — especially in east Sacramento where neighbors are expecting thousands of trick-or-treaters to come through in a few days.

Some residents have already put out their decorations, while others usually put them up the night before.

"It's a good time for everybody, especially the kids,” said Juan Cornejo, an east Sacramento resident.

Cornejo is putting up the final touches on his Halloween decorations. Preparing for large crowds of trick-or-treaters.

"I buy about typically 1,300 pieces, I buy those little mini candy bars, I get one per person and by around 8:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., I run out,” he said.

While east Sacramento is known for its elaborate Christmas decorations, that spirit has also since spilled over into Halloween for father-son duo Richard Norlie Jr. and Sr.

“So it's a beer pong theme," said Richard Norlie Jr., an east Sacramento resident. "We named it 'Fear Pong' and we're able to use a little pump and engineer the skeleton pouring some liquid glow-in-the-dark beer."

The duo looks forward to being part of another year in this longstanding tradition.

“The first year we did 800 pieces of candy and we're up to 1,400 pieces of candy and usually we run out," said Norlie Jr.

As the weather begins to change and we crawl towards Halloween, trick-or-treaters of all ages will descend on east Sacramento for a howling good time.

“If you come by, please drive slow and look for kids," said Norlie Sr. "They're all over.”
