Fire at landfill near Sloughhouse extinguished

Authorities asked residents who lived near the fire to keep their doors and windows closed due to the unknown content of what was burning.

SLOUGHHOUSE, Calif. — Firefighters say they have extinguished the blaze at a landfill east of Sacramento, near Sloughhouse, Monday evening.

According to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department, crews are turning over the monitoring of the fire to landfill staff who they said will keep an eye on things throughout the night.

At one point during the fight, Sac Metro Fire asked residents living near the fire, located along Kiefer Boulevard near Grant Line Road, to keep their doors and windows closed due to the unknown content of what was burning.

Crews initially said they had difficulty getting water on the fire because it was located toward the interior of the landfill, according to Sac Metro Fire.

In their only update concerning the size of the fire, officials said it had to about 100x100 feet, but did not spread beyond the landfill.

It is unclear how the fire started.
