SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Crews extinguished a fire at an old Sacramento Regional Transit maintenance and storage building in the Erickson Industrial Park area along Arden Way, Wednesday morning.
Firefighters were called out to the warehouse in the 2100 block of Evergreen Street, sandwiched between Arden Way and Highway 160, just before 6 a.m. A large plume of smoke from the fire could be seen for miles in all directions billowing from the blaze.
A second alarm was called out on the fire just after 6 a.m., and fire officials initially had to take a defensive position to get it under control and protect surrounding businesses. Approximately 80 firefighters responded.
Officials told ABC10 the fire was “pretty much out” around 7:30 a.m. The building has been out of use and empty for a while, officials said. The roof was unstable and at risk of collapsing before the fire started, so officials said they had no plans of sending firefighters inside.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but investigators say it is not considered suspicious at this time.
