The City of Sacramento offers free parking at meters from Thanksgiving to Christmas in the holiday zone.

SACRAMENTO, Calif — Prepare to save some money on parking during the holiday season.

For those looking to shop, attend holiday events or just enjoy anything in Old Sacramento, midtown and downtown, well then you're in luck because starting the day after Thanksgiving, parking will be free after 4:30 p.m.

Sacramento is bringing back its free, holiday-metered parking for on weekdays after 4:30 p.m. and all day on weekends starting Friday, Nov. 29. Free meter parking zones include Front Street to the west, I Street to the north, 29th Street to the east, and L Street or Capitol Avenue to the south.

This program only applies to metered, on-street parking spaces. In a press release, city officials said people should be sure to follow the rules of the posted signs if not parking at a metered space.

If you are unsure whether you are parking at a free metered space, look at the meter and it will tell you that there is no payment needed if you are in the right area. The offer runs until Christmas day.
