GoldenSky Festival set to expand in 2024

While the four-day Aftershock's economic impact is $28 million, the two-day GoldenSky Festival is set to take in an estimated $12 million.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The second year of GoldenSky, a country music festival, is in the books as thousands of fans took over Discovery Park in Sacramento. Now organizers are looking to expand the event further.

“Sacramento came out to party this weekend with us. We have had a magical weekend,” said Chamie McCurry, Chief Marketing Officer with Danny Wimmer Presents. “To have that growth from a year one to a year two festival is really remarkable.”

On the heels of Aftershock, organizers said the economic impact GoldenSky Festival brought to the Sacramento region is wonderful.

“Second year is phenomenal growth,” said Mike Testa, CEO of Visit Sacramento.

Testa says while the four-day Aftershock’s economic impact is $28 million, the two-day event is set to take in an estimated $12 million.

Now, plans are already underway for the third year of GoldenSky to expand to three days in 2024.

“When it is a two-day festival, you see a lot of folks from the market attending,” said Testa. When you go to three days, you do get more visitors. Certainly, the locals will still get to enjoy it, but it will bring more people in from outside.”

Organizers say this year’s two-day event saw around 60,000 fans attend.

The headliner Sunday night was Eric Church.

As Aftershock and GoldenSky are in the rearview mirror, Sacramento’s attention turns to the IRONMAN California triathlon on Oct. 22.
