Imaginarium set to return to Sacramento for holiday season

This year's festive light show event will celebrate a decade of holiday celebration.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Dazzling light displays are set to take over Cal Expo this winter season with the return of Imaginarium.

The "holiday magic" of Imaginarium officially begins Nov. 22 and will run through Jan. 5 at 1600 Exposition Boulevard. This year's seasonal event marks a decade of holiday celebration at Cal Expo, which will include five million LED lights and "larger-than-life" storybook characters and fantastical creatures.

Other attractions include endless mirrors and photo booths, a free daily circus, an ice skating rink and carnival rides and games. 

When does it open? 

Imaginarium will operate every night from Nov. 22 to Dec. 1 except for Thanksgiving. 

The event is also open every night during the week of Christmas (Dec. 22-28). Days and hours may vary due to weather, demand and special events, according to the event's website. 

It will be open until 10:30 p.m. from Sunday to Thursday from Dec. 18 to Jan. 5. Click here to view the full calendar.

Here is the event's hours:

  • Wednesday: 5 p.m. to 10 p.mn.
  • Thursday: 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Friday to Saturday: 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Sunday: 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

How much are tickets?

Tickets start at $19 for kids ages 3 to 12 and children 2 years old and under get inside the event for free. 

General admission for adults start at $24 and there are discounted tickets for those with a military ID at $19. Wristbands for carnival rides began at $25.

Is there a bag policy? 

According to Cal Expo, there is a clear bag policy and bags must be no larger than 12" by 12" by 2". Click here to view a list of approved bags. 

Parental bags are allowed inside as long as they're readily available for screening at entry. No outside food or beverages are allowed to be brought into the festival unless its baby food and formula.
