SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office is investigating after deputies assigned to the county's jail in downtown Sacramento discovered a 29-year-old inmate dead inside his cell.
According to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, deputies noticed the man unresponsive inside his cell around 2:15 a.m. Saturday. Initially, jail staff reportedly administered first aid, but eventually called in the Sacramento Fire Department.
Medics pronounced the inmate dead. The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office says it will conduct an investigation and that the County Coroner's Office will determine the cause of death.
The unidentified inmate had been incarcerated since April 20, 2022, law enforcement said.
