El Dorado County sheriff's deputies arrested a juvenile late Friday night after officials said he fatally shot a relative and fled the scene in the victim's truck.
Sheriffs responded to the 100 block of Argonaut Drive in Diamond Springs after receiving a "suspicious circumstance" call. After authorities arrived, they located a 41-year-old man inside the home with a gunshot wound.
During the investigation, sheriffs discovered both the victim's truck and a juvenile relative were missing from the house. A short time later, detectives located the juvenile driving the truck.
The neighborhood where the murder happened is quiet with older homes. Neighbors were very hesitant to speak on camera and some were upset to have the media present. One man did not go on camera but said he knew the young man that was charged with the murder and said he thought there was more to the story. He told us the young man was a very kind kid.
Down the street from the murder, neighbor Stephen Cass, told us he was saddened by the tragedy.
"This is sad, disappointing, I am feeling for the family right now," Cass told ABC 10.
Many were wondering how the young man had possession of a firearm. Cass explained that guns are a norm in Diamond Springs households.
The unidentified juvenile was booked into the El Dorado County Juvenile Hall on murder charges.
