SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Allen Vang was arraigned in Sacramento County Court Wednesday, May 1, for his alleged involvement in a crash that killed one man and hospitalized his wife and child.
Vang, 35, has been charged with one count of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter for his involvement in the April 20 crash. The Sacramento Police Department suspected Vang was driving under the influence.
Vang was driving south on Franklin Boulevard when he collided with a northbound vehicle carrying three passengers, according to Sacramento Police Department Sgt. Vance Chandler.
Wilber Sermeno, 44, of Elk Grove died during that crash. Sermeno's wife and son were also injured, according to the Sermeno family.
"We do suspect DUI to be a factor in this collision," Chandler said at the time of the crash.

In a statement Wednesday, Vang’s attorney Byron Roope said his client’s blood test came back negative for both alcohol and drugs.
“Mr. Vang is heartbroken at the loss for the deceased’s family and for their immeasurable pain,” Roope said. “Regardless of what happens with the court process, he will carry this burden with him.”
The Sermeno family says the loss of Wilber is tremendous. He was a loving husband and father of two, family members say. His wife is expecting another child.
Vang is due back in Sacramento Superior Court on June 5 at 8:30 a.m.
