SACRAMENTO, Calif — The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office says a man who was arrested and brought to the Sacramento County Main Jail died early Sunday morning while being fingerprinted during intake.
The 55-year-old man had been taken into custody earlier that morning by the Sacramento Police Department for two minor offenses. After being medically cleared for incarceration by the Main Jail's medical staff, the man was fingerprinted. It was during that process that he became unresponsive.
The deputies and Main Jail medical staff tried to revive him by administering CPR and Narcan, but their efforts were unsuccessful. The Sacramento City Fire personnel arrived on the scene, but the man was pronounced dead at the jail.
The Sheriff's Office will investigate following internal procedures and state laws, while the Sacramento County Coroner's Office will determine the cause of death and notify the man's next of kin before releasing his name.
