Man dies after being extricated from car by Sacramento Metro Fire following crash

Rancho Cordova police are currently investigating the cause of Monday night's solo-vehicle crash.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Officials with Sacramento Metro Fire confirmed a driver died after crashing head-on into a tree at Douglas Road and Sunrise Boulevard in Rancho Cordova.

The solo male driver was extricated from the vehicle after the crash by firefighter who responded to he scene around 8 p.m. on Monday.

Rancho Cordova police are currently investigating the cause of the accident.

In a press release sent out Tuesday, police said several calls of the incident came into the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Communication Center. Officers and Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene. Once there they found "catastrophic damage" to the vehicle the man was driving.

Police said investigators are in the process of determining the cause of the crash. They are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or the victim’s driving behavior prior to the crash  to contact RCPD’s Traffic Unit at (916) 875-9623 or the Sacramento County Sheriff's Communication Center at (916) 874-5115.
