Man, girl dead in South Sacramento apartment fire

A fire spokesperson said they were found in the same room of the same apartment.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A man and a girl died after an apartment fire in South Sacramento Monday afternoon.

According to Sacramento Fire Department, the blaze was reported along the 5400 block of Mack Road. Crews arrived to find fire coming from two apartment units on the second floor of the complex.

Initially, firefighters said everyone was able to escape, but in an update, they said two victims were found. A fire spokesperson said they were found in the same room of the same apartment.

It's not clear what started the fire. The investigation is ongoing.
