SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A man is in critical condition after lighting a firework in his hands, which caused severe injuries and allegedly started half-acre grass fire, authorities said.
Just after 8 a.m., a man in his 20s lit a firework in his hands along Vinci Avenue in North Sacramento, according to Sacramento Fire Department spokesman Capt. Justin Sylvia. It exploded and severely injured his hands and part of his chest, Sylvia said.
He was transported to the hospital in critical condition, fire personnel said.
Sylvia said the firework going off ignited a half-acre grass fire, but no other injuries were reported.
The department is not looking at criminally charging the man as of noon Sunday, but Sylvia said that could change as the investigation continues.
