SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A jury convicted Trey Hallman nearly five years after he shot three of his former roommates, killing one, in south Sacramento, according to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.

Officials said Hallman snuck through the backdoor of a home around 5:30 a.m. in the 10000 block of Clover Ranch Drive with a gun while wearing body armor Aug. 23, 2019. He then shot three of his “friends and former roommates” while they slept, officials said.

One person died and the other two were seriously injured but survived.

Hallman was found in Antioch after police contacted him through text and convinced him to turn himself in. Officials said they found the gun used in the shooting in his car.

He was convicted June 27 of first-degree murder and two counts of first-degree attempted murder.

Hallman entered a not guilty plea by reason of insanity, but the jury found him legally sane Wednesday.

Sentencing is set for Aug. 30 at 1:30 p.m. He faces a maximum sentence of 114 years to life in prison.
